What is SAO?

Sigma Alpha Omega ("SAO") is a non-denominational Christian social sorority that is founded first in Christ and second in sisterhood. We encourage each other to grow in the Lord and in the Word while holding one another accountable through our friendships. We are already sisters in Christ, so it feels natural for us to operate as a social sorority, providing women a Christian focus in university Greek Life!

What Does Being a Sister Entail?

Active sisters of SAO participate in Bible Studies and devotionals, social events (which can include anything from spa nights to game nights to seeing a movie together), fundraisers, and service events (such as writing letters to veterans and volunteering in the Madison community). Each semester, we also have a retreat and a formal, and we also have weekly chapter meetings. Before being a sister, each member will go through a candidate semester where she learns about the sorority.

Why Should I Join SAO?

First and foremost, being a sister of SAO will help you focus on and strengthen your relationship with the Lord. College life can be very busy and sometimes chaotic, and being in SAO is a great way to make sure that your faith is still a priority in your life. Additionally, being a sister will give you a wonderful community of Christian women who support you, and it also offers the opportunity to build life-long friendships. On top of that, there are also many, many opportunities for leadership! From being a Committee Chairwoman to Candidate Mentor to President, there are tons of ways to gain valuable leadership experience. Finally, it's a lot of fun! As previously mentioned, we have spa nights and holiday parties, and we have a formal every semester (just to name a few!).

How is SAO Operating With COVID-19 Guidelines?

The health and safety of our sisters and potential new members is our number one priority, so we will be following the Dane County Public Health and Center for Leadership and Involvement guidelines and conducting many of our events in a virtual format. We don't have everything planned out quite yet, so keep checking back as we solidify our semester plans!
